It will be immediately obvious to anyone above the age of 30 that a new generation of YouTubers makes a living by filming themselves talking about apparently inconsequential things. Case in point, YouTubers film their reactions to “Would you rather” video slideshows that ask the audience to choose which of two common scenarios they would prefer. In one such video, Kearsten Foltyn, whose channel has tens of millions of subscribers, responds to a question about whether he would rather live in a house or an apartment. The answer to this question clearly depends on whether you care more about being in the center of the action or about proximity to wide open spaces. Foltyn, who lives in Las Vegas, predictably responds that he would prefer to live in a house; he remarks, “I need my own driveway.”
While walking up a driveway to pick up your prom date may be a peak experience, and while pulling into your driveway with a car full of groceries may be one of the comforts of home, driveways have their risks. Specifically, drivers on the road can easily fail to notice you when you turn from your driveway onto the main road. If you have been injured in an accident where one of the vehicles was turning onto the main road from a private driveway, contact a Houma car accident lawyer.
New Orleans Real Estate Developer Fatally Injured in Collision When Turning Onto the Road From a Private Driveway
Joe Jaeger was a true New Orleans success story. His first job after high school was as an apprentice plumber, but he eventually earned enough money as a plumber that he was able to invest in real estate. He went on to buy several of the big hotels that give the New Orleans skyline its distinctive contours. Jaeger’s hotels eventually became part of the story of the financial troubles that plagued New Orleans after the catastrophic 2005 hurricane season, as many of them remained unoccupied for years as he struggled to obtain enough financing to renovate them.
In February 2025, Jaeger was driving his 2024 GMC, turning from a private driveway onto LA Hwy 25 in St. Tammany Parish. As he entered the roadway, a Chevrolet Silverado struck the driver’s side of his vehicle. Jaeger suffered critical injuries in the collision and died several days later. He was 77 years old.
Disastrous accidents can happen when someone enters the main road from a private driveway. Long and winding driveways that open onto roads where traffic moves quickly are especially difficult to navigate. How police and insurance companies apportion fault for the accident depends on the specifics of the collision.
