If you are writing the screenplay for an action movie, the phrase “chain reaction collision” makes dollar signs flash before your eyes; in any other situation, it strikes fear in your heart. Imagine crashing your car just because another car crashed into yours, simply because a different car crashed into it. The fact that most of the drivers downstream of the initial collision bear little or no fault for the accident once the insurance claims adjusters get to work is cold comfort if you are injured and your car is wrecked. One driver’s mistake can cause a multi-vehicle pileup that causes numerous injuries, especially if one of the vehicles involved is an 18-wheeler. What happens when only two cars collide, but several unrelated accidents happen near each other in a short span of time? When this happens, road conditions are usually a factor, whether because of adverse weather or because the road is in a poor state of maintenance. If you were injured in a car accident close to where another accident occurred on the same day, contact a Houma personal injury lawyer.

Five 18-Wheelers Crash on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge

When 90 wheels are out of whack, you know it is bad. March 4, 2026, was a bad day on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge, a stretch of I-10 that connects Baton Rouge to Lafayette. The bridge is accident-prone even in the best of times because both sides are narrow and lack shoulders. This month, though, five 18-wheelers crashed on or near the bridge on the same day. The collisions resulted in the closure of both eastbound and westbound lanes of the bridge. The most recent reports published by the Louisiana State Police about the accident did not indicate whether anyone was injured.

Two Single Vehicle Collisions on the Same Stretch of I-55 on the Same Night

Meanwhile, a section of I-55 near Kenner witnessed two accidents on December 24, 2025. Both were single-vehicle accidents, and both involved an unrestrained occupant of the vehicle being ejected. Both of the ejected vehicle occupants sustained severe injuries but ultimately survived, and one person refused transport to a hospital after being examined at the scene of the accident. The driver of one of the vehicles was arrested. The WBRZ news website did not say anything about the events that led up to the collisions. Since only one driver was arrested, it appears that police have ruled out drugs and alcohol as a contributing factor in one of the accidents. Drunk driving accidents are especially common around the holidays.
