When you ride a motorcycle, things can go from fine to disastrous in an instant. That is part of the thrill of riding motorcycles. The biggest risk factors for motorcycle accidents that result in death or serious injury are the same as those for catastrophic accidents involving cars; these risk factors include excessive speed, alcohol or drugs, and failure to use available safety features, namely helmets for motorcyclists and seatbelts in cars. Even when you wear a motorcycle helmet, avoid driving after drinking, and abide by the speed limit, there is still a substantial risk of severe injury for motorcyclists, more than there is for occupants of other motor vehicles.

The chances of surviving a collision are higher if you can avoid being ejected from the vehicle. The risk of ejection is higher for motorcyclists simply because motorcycles have so little vehicle structure to prevent ejection. In the past few weeks, Louisiana has witnessed several fatal motorcycle accidents. If you were injured in a motorcycle accident in Louisiana, contact a Houma car accident lawyer.
