Early on a Saturday morning in the summer of 2026, a car crashed on Seibert Road in Tangipahoa Parish, and the car overturned. The driver was a 27-year-old woman, and the passengers were a 30-year-old woman, a 22-year-old man, and a 21-year-old man. The youngest man was in critical condition the day after the accident, and the other vehicle occupants sustained minor injuries. The driver is facing criminal charges for vehicular negligent injury, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and DWI. When police responded to the accident, they also found another vehicle where the driver, an 18-year-old man, was asleep behind the wheel. He is also facing charges for DWI, although it is not clear whether he was traveling with the other vehicle.
Lafourche Parish Seeks Extradition of Drunk Driver Who Injured Eight People
Extradition is when the state or parish where someone is facing criminal charges, or the place where the alleged crime happened, orders the court in another jurisdiction to send the defendant to the jurisdiction where he or she is facing charges. Extradition can even happen internationally. Lafourche Parish is currently requesting the extradition of a 58-year-old man who was arrested in St. Mary Parish. Around Christmastime, the defendant was driving a 2004 Chevrolet in Thibodaux. He tried to pass a car on Talbot Avenue near Meadows Circle, and he was going too fast to avoid a collision in the busy area. He struck two pedestrians, children who had just gotten off a bus, and then collided with a 2013 Honda Accord. The two young pedestrians were airlifted to a hospital, and two passengers in the Chevrolet and four in the Honda, two of whom were children, were also injured. The at-fault driver remained at the scene of the accident. His blood alcohol content (BAC) was above the legal limit. It is unclear why he was not arrested immediately or, if he was, how he ended up in St. Mary Parish. He is facing charges for vehicular negligent injuring and DWI.
