Insurance claims after a collision that involves three or more vehicles can be simpler than those involving just two. When only two vehicles are involved in an accident, there is much more room for debate about which one caused the accident. If the accident involved more than two vehicles, though, it is easier to see how the chain reaction collision began. If another car rear-ended your car and caused it to hit another, it is obvious that you are not at fault for the accident. Meanwhile, protection from liability for the accident does not equal protection from injury. Your risk of serious injury is at least as high if you get caught in the middle of a chain reaction collision, and medical bills are prohibitively expensive, no matter the cause of your injuries. A Houma car accident lawyer can help you if you are injured in a chain reaction collision.
Man Dies in Webster Parish After Pickup Truck Propels His Car Into a Parked Vehicle
One afternoon in April 2023, Bobby Neal was driving out of a parking lot in Webster Parish near Sarepta. He was trying to enter the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 371 and was waiting for a break in the traffic that would enable him to enter. Kendall Hampton was driving a pickup truck in the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 371 when his vehicle exited the roadway and struck Neal’s car. News reports did not say how fast Hampton was going, but the impact was enough to propel Neal’s car back into the parking lot and to cause it to collide with a parked SUV. The SUV was unoccupied.
Neal was transported to Springhill Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. He was 68 years old. Hampton was also treated for injuries resulting from the collision, as was a passenger who had been riding in the car with Neal. Both of the injured people are expected to make a full recovery.
Exercising Your Rights After a Multi-Vehicle Collision
If you have suffered serious injuries in a car accident, you should contact a personal injury lawyer as soon as possible after the accident. Even though the insurance company cannot deny that you bear no responsibility for causing the accident if you were in the middle of a chain reaction collision, they might still argue that some of your injuries or symptoms are the result of a pre-existing medical condition instead of a result of the collision. Therefore, the amount they are willing to pay you could be less than you need to cover all of your accident-related medical bills. The best way to prevent this problem is to have a car accident lawyer negotiate with the insurance companies on your behalf, starting as early in the process as possible.
